Thousands upon thousands of people world-wide enjoy having a pet as part of their household. And, one of the challenges every pet owner has is to find good pet names. Some people decide to name their pet even before they find the type of pet they want. In other cases, people decide upon a good pet name based on some unique characteristic of their pet after observing some of their individual antics for a few days or weeks.
Pets provide some unique advantages to people. Some people find that owning a pet hones their skills for caring and nurturing. I have known many people over the years that have had a pet to care, to train, and to form an integral part of their household long before they have children.
Now, I'm not saying that caring for a pet is the same as caring for a child. What I am suggesting, however, is that some of the routines associated with consistent pet training also apply to being consistent with positive reinforcement so necessary when raising a child.
Also, pets provide the companionship to many single people as well as to many seniors. There is something very special about having a pet when you live alone. This pet isn't just a pet; this pet is bonded to you always there to provide devotion. Your pet is always there to welcome you home after a hard days work, and is always there as a friendly distraction so as to give you an opportunity to forget about little things that really are not important.
You may have had a very trying day but your special friend is always there to provide loving attention. It's hard to remain in a down mood when you know there is an unquestioning loyal friend there to play, to walk, to run, to entertain with their own special characteristics, or loving antics.
Unfortunately, not everyone that has a pet treats them the way they deserve. Take some dogs, for example. How many times have you been out and about and noticed a dog that is neglected, who has to stay outside no matter how inclement the weather without having a shelter to retreat to?
How many times have you seen someone mistreat their dog with harsh treatment, or worse still, with physical abuse? Would a human friend put up this kind of abuse? I think not. To me, these kinds of people should never be allowed to have a pet of any kind.
Human friends may come and go, move away, or leave you when you're feeling down. But, your pet is there as a constant companion, never complaining (unless you don't feed them on time), always up for some fun, and never without an unkind remark.

Big Bang Master List update
Let’s face it; one of the main goals of joining a meme is to increase links.
So, let’s call a spade a spade and see how “Big” of a “Bang” we can get.
The goal is to exceed 1,000 sites. Can it be done? With your help we will leave all the other memes in our dust!
Just follow the instructions. No thought necessary.
You do not have to be tagged to play along. This game is simple and so are the rules.
- Copy from *Start Copy Here* through *End Copy Here*
- Add your site(s) to the list. Just be sure to post at each site you add.
- Tag or don’t tag, your choice, however, the more tags you create the bigger the list will grow.
- Let me know your blog’s name and url by leaving me a comment HERE. I will add you to the master list. (If you would like the scroll box code, leave me your email address and I will email it to you.)
- Come back and copy the master list back to your site, often. This process will allow late-comers to get as much link benefit as the first ones in.

Maine Coon

Their extreme intelligence makes them a relatively easy cat to train and may explain their "dog-like" behavior. Playing fetch is a favorite game, where they'll bring their ball, drop it your feet and wait for it to be thrown. They can indeed be large cats, growing up to 40 inches long and even healthy cats can weigh as much as 25 pounds.
Maine Coons have medium-long, dense fur, with longer hair, or a ruff, on their chests similar to the mane of a lion. They're also distinguished by their long, bushy tail and large ears which are tipped by tufts of fur.

Virtual Pets - Why Are Virtual Pets So Popular?
Virtual pets, also known as a digital pet, are popular all over the world today. Many will say you can trace the virtual pets origin back to the 1970's and the "Pet Rock". The Pet Rock was an ingenious marketing idea. The idea originated in southern California but quickly spread across the United States. The Pet Rock fad only lasted around six months but it laid the ground work for many new ideas in the future.
Virtual Pets were built on the age old idea that you do not need a real live pet to have fun. You can create an emotional connection with an inanimate object. Today Virtual Pets have grown into much more than a passing fad. Virtual Pets have morphed into both physical robots and toys, to strictly digital in manner.
They are enjoyed by millions of people all over the world. VP's (Virtual Pets) are popular with both the young and the old. They have become extremely popular in the big Cities of the world. People in big cities do not have the room to raise a real pet. The Virtual Pet gives them the opportunity to feel the same emotional connection they would with a normal pet. VP's have to be cared for. You have to feed them and give them water; they must be walked and loved. If you do not take care of your Virtual Pet it could die.
There are different kinds of digital pets. A few of the different types are:
• Digital Pets: these are the most prominent. A computer or digital device is used to interact with the virtual pet. More often than not the pet is interacted with in a virtual world that exists in the computer or on the Internet. Games or puzzles are often played to allow the owner to earn money to buy food and care items for their pet. The pet can be bred with other owner's pets and can have offspring. You are limited only by your imagination. These virtual worlds come and go making it difficult to keep an accurate count of how many there are. They are numerous on the internet. Digital pets do come in different types.
Some of these are:
o The online Internet Virtual Pet.
o The desktop digital pet; requires software be installed on your computer.
o The digital device Virtual Pet such as the Palm pilot pet.
• Physical Virtual Pet: these come in several varieties. There are robot dogs, fish aquariums, small plastic pets and therapeutic pets for the sick and elderly.
• MP3 Digital Pets: there are different types here as well. Some of these have morphed over into the cell phone.

Great Dane
In August 2004, a Great Dane named "Gibson" from Grass Valley, California was recognized by the Guinness Book of Records as the world's tallest dog, measuring an astounding 42.2 inches at the withers. The Great Dane's large and imposing appearance belies its friendly nature and they're generally well-disposed toward other dogs, non-canine pets, wild animals, and humans

What You Should Know About Airline Pet Carriers
The best way to travel with your pets is with an airline approved carrier as there may be a time when you will have to travel by airline, which requires a specific type of carrier.. You can buy any kind of carrier to keep your pet in during car, bus or train rides but remember that transporting your pet by airplane requires specific measurements and safety precautions for carriers going on board aircraft. For example, airlines only approve carriers made out of strong plastic or wood. Carriers made of wiring or fiberboard are usually rejected for air travel.
The basic rules for airline approved carriers are to ensure the safety and comfort of your pet during flights. There is a standard guideline, the Live Animals Regulations, with which airlines all over the world must conform to, and so each airline has developed their own policies, according to their own experience and practices. To be safe, you must call your preferred airline and check their policies first. Airlines have measurement guidelines not only for inside the carrier, but also for its external sizing, on which they determine the charges of your pet carrier as cargo. Approved small-size carriers are around 21 inches long and 16 inches high, with a door width of 15 inches. The larger carriers can go up to 40 to 48 inches long and 27 to 35 inches high, with the carrier opening to widths between 30 and 35 inches. In between, there are still different sizes to choose from, according to the size of your pet.
The best way to fit your dog or cat in the approved carrier is to have it stand inside, taking into account its full height, the length of its body from nose to tail, the width of its body across the shoulders and the height of its legs. Your pet should be able to not only stand up inside the carrier, but also lie down and turn around with ease. Airlines also approve carriers that have proper ventilation and secure locks and latches. Some carriers come with their own water bowls, which can be removed and replaced without having to open the main carrier door, and stickers necessary for air travel. These stickers usually indicate that there is a "Live Animal" inside the carrier, as well as arrow stickers pointing the right side "Up." Attach an ID tag to your pet's collar with its name and your mobile number written on it. Also make sure that the collar does not catch to anything inside the carrier.
While some airlines enforce a strictly one-pet-per-carrier rule, other airlines will allow two adult-sized pets in one carrier as long as each pet does not weigh more than 30.9 pounds, and as long as the two pets are already used to sleeping together. Pets that weigh more than 30.9 pounds should have their own separate carriers. Smaller animals can travel together in one carrier if they come from the same litter. You may want to leave some food for them, if it is a very long trip.
Get your pet used to the carrier by leaving it open in its favorite places in your home, leaving a few treats inside the carrier. The pet will explore the carrier on its own and eventually learn to hang out inside for periods of time. Also, try leaving your carrier open the day before you take your pet to the vet, so your pet will not be too scared to go to the vet. This will ensure that your pet is comfortable in its carrier and will have a less stressful flight than if you force it into a carrier you bought the day before your departure date.

How Do I Choose A Veterinary Hospital?
Choosing the right veterinary hospital for you and your pet is almost as important as actually choosing your pet! It's a good idea to choose the hospital before you choose your new pet. That way if you have a sudden emergency, you will not have the added stress of picking a veterinary hospital on the spot. Start your search by asking family and friends for recommendations. Doing this helps you begin to narrow down the hospitals. Once you have done that, visit the hospitals that are on your list.
Here are some things to keep in mind during your visits to potential veterinary hospitals:
• Office hours: Be sure to notice if there are regular office hours and make sure that the hours work with your schedule. Also make sure you find out who covers the hospital when the veterinarian is not available.
• Professional staff: The attitude of the staff is very important when choosing a hospital. Take notice of how routine phone calls are handled. Find out if you can request appointments with specific veterinarians and most importantly, make sure that you feel comfortable talking to the entire staff.
• Services: Some hospitals offer services that others do not. Find out what kinds of services are offered at the hospital you're visiting.
• Emergency care: Not all veterinary hospitals handle emergencies, especially after hours. If the hospital doesn't handle during or after hour emergencies, find out if they have an affiliate hospital where they send their patients to in the case of an emergency.
• Fees and payment: Find out what types of payment the hospital accepts. Also, are payments required on the day of a visit, or can you use a payment plan?
• Professional affiliations: Find out if the veterinarians are part of any national veterinary associations.
• Facility: Take a tour of the hospital and make sure that it looks clean and orderly. Also, check for any foul odors.
Once you have made sure that the hospital facilities meet your standards and expectations, you want to make sure that you are comfortable with the veterinarian as well. You should be able to comfortably communicate with your pet's doctor. Make sure that you feel that you can ask questions and that the answers are clearly explained. Your relationship with your veterinarian is essential to your pet's health. Your pet cannot tell the doctor when something is not right, so you need to be able to.
Choosing the right veterinary hospital is an important step in choosing a new pet. Be sure to carefully choose your hospital. Be sure that your pet is going to be as important to the veterinarian as it is to you!

Overcoming the Emotional Pain O Overcoming the Emotional Pain Of Losing A Petf Losing A Pet
The United States is a pet-loving country. Two-thirds of U.S. households own at least own pet (39 percent own at least one dog, and another 36 percent own at least one cat), according to the American Pet Products Manufacturers Association (APPMA) 2007-2008 National Pet Owners Survey.
Pets are also increasingly looked at as members of the family.
Americans are not only spending more time and money on their pets (close to $41 billion last year), they're regarding them as an integral part of the household. For instance, 40 percent of people who carry pictures of their spouse and children in their wallet also carry a picture of their pets.
With this in mind, it's easy to see why the loss of a pet is an emotionally trying time, full of the emotions that surround the death of a loved one: grief, sadness, loneliness, and other feelings of loss.
Grieving for a Lost Pet
You may find that after your pet's death you follow the five stages of grief that are associated with loss:
* Denial or disbelief * Yearning * Anger * Depression * Acceptance
The process is different for everyone, and you may experience all of these stages or just a few. You may also choose to begin your healing process in a different way, using The Sedona Method.
The Sedona Method teaches you how to let go of negative feelings that naturally arise from a loss. You still care for your pet, but you are allowing yourself to move on and experience happiness again.
According to Hale Dwoskin, CEO and Director of Training at Sedona Training Associates, in order to move past your grief, it's important to focus on releasing what you feel in the present moment.
"The best feeling to release when you have lost a pet or anything else is whatever you are feeling NOW," he says. "Most of us get stuck on how we are supposed to feel, or what we are supposed to let go of. This doesn't work. The simplest way to release is to focus on what's actually here now."
As you release your feelings of sadness and loss, you'll also find that you feel closer to your lost pet.
"One thing to remember as you do let go is feeling grief or loss doesn't keep you connected to your pet -- it actually causes you to feel separate," Dwoskin says. "If you let these feelings go, you will simply feel the love that you felt before much more easily."
You may also find support groups in your area for people who have recently lost pets. A support group allows you to share your feelings with others going through exactly what you are, and complements your use of The Sedona Method.
After time has passed and your grief has subsided, you may even want to consider another pet. Not, of course, to replace your lost pet, but simply to experience the joy of having an animal in your life.
"Happiness and fulfillment are our natural state. Pets help us get in touch with this natural state of happiness because they take our attention off ourselves and our problems. When our attention is focused elsewhere, we always feel happier," Dwoskin says.
